A New Safety Net for Live Drone Feeds

AirData has introduced Stream Recording and Rewind for its Live Streaming service, giving authorized viewers the ability to scrub back through the last ten minutes of an active feed. The system also captures up to ten minutes of footage from before a recording was manually started, so operators can recover moments that occurred just before they hit record. The feature is aimed at remote operations where the pilot, aircraft and decision-maker are not in the same place.

Solving the Missed-Moment Problem

Critical events often unfold when no one is watching or recording. Drone as First Responder programs, remote inspections and BVLOS missions are the clearest beneficiaries. A commander arriving late to a feed can rewind rather than ask for a verbal summary, and an engineer can inspect an area the aircraft has already flown past without sending it back. Huntsville Police Department, an existing AirData user, noted that analysts can now pause, rewind, zoom and capture details while an incident is still unfolding.

Cloud Backup and Flexible Stream Support

Because video is written to AirData's platform as it streams, a second copy exists independently of the drone, its SD card or the local hardware. Administrators can set retention windows and share access through PINs, expiration dates and QR codes. The system ingests RTMP, RTSP and SRT streams from docks, third-party encoders and the AirData mobile app, which means mixed fleets are supported. Multiview lets teams monitor as many as seven streams simultaneously.

Regulatory Tailwinds and Availability

The launch lands as the FAA's proposed Part 108 rule edges toward routine BVLOS operations, a shift that would put more weight on operational recordkeeping. AirData points to 65 million logged flights and 470,000 pilots as evidence of rising demand to manage mission data alongside aircraft and flight records. Record and Rewind is available now to Live Streaming customers, and trials can be requested through the AirData web application.
