Multi-million blow for Nacka – signed contract without a price tag
A costly commitment with no fixed price
Nacka’s handling of railway upgrade agreements with SL is drawing scrutiny after it emerged that the municipality accepted payment responsibility without a set price. Work on the Saltsjöbanan line could add more than 200 million kronor to the bill.
Estimate arrived after signatures
A rough figure of 68 million kronor reached Nacka only by email, and only after the contracts had been signed. That timing meant officials committed to the project without a reliable cost ceiling.
Signature dispute
Mats Gerdau, who leads Nacka for the Moderate Party, denies signing any such agreement. Yet P4 Stockholm’s review identified his signature on one of the documents, putting the focus on who approved the terms.
Why it matters
The episode illustrates the danger of public infrastructure deals that proceed before costs are nailed down. Sveriges Radio reports independently and impartially.
