Trump's Comments on Irish Unity
During a stop in Ireland, US President Donald Trump told reporters that a united Ireland would be a "fantastic thing" and suggested reunification with Northern Ireland would happen "sooner or later." He made the remarks after meeting Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Dublin on Saturday.
Golf Event Draws Attention
Trump's trip included a visit to Doonbeg in western Ireland, where he owns a golf course hosting a European Tour event. He is set to present the winner's trophy on Sunday and watch part of the competition.
Public Pushback
Not everyone welcomed the visit. A poll in the Irish Sunday Independent found that 69 percent of respondents were critical of Trump's trip, underscoring significant public disapproval despite the official meetings and golf event.
